Muziris
Muziris has its roots in a happy accident. I dropped my camera when I visited Kochi in 2019 to attend the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, and my photographs came out full of distortions and light leaks, looking to my imagination like flood-ravaged documents from the lost port city of Muziris. I embraced these gifts from my wonky camera, put more film in it, made other photographs with it in other places over the next few months, and put together this project. While the exact location of Muziris remains disputed by historians and archaeologists, I found its traces wherever I went.
